Old Glory Defiled

I was raised in a military household - my father was retired Army, and he taught my sister and I a deep and abiding respect for this country, including its symbols.  We were taught, for example, that the United States flag is a symbol of our country and the freedoms that we enjoy, and that to insult or defile the flag is an insult to the thousands of men and women who, over the last two hundred years, gave their lives to win and protect those freedoms.  We were taught that, no matter how much we disagreed with the politics or laws of the US, that there were "some things you just don't do."

When I heard the story of Bill Clinton intending to order that the flag of the United States be flown in an inferior position to that of the Vietnamese flag, my first reaction was outrage and anger.  Not only is this an insult to every person who has ever worn a uniform in defense of this country (especially those who served in Vietnam), but it is also in direct violation of both US and international law.  But, as Dennis Elenburg of DiscoverTruth.com wrote me in a private email, "since when has violating the law been a problem for King Clinton?  Laws are for other people, not him..."

As long as we sit by and allow this sort of outrage to occur, we deserve what we get.  Anyone who doesn't express his or her outrage at this clearly traitorous action is, in my opinion, also a traitor, plain and simple.  Have you written your letter to the White House, or dropped off an email note to [email protected] yet?
