Technology Investments, Dallas, TX

Responsible for technology infrastructure for Dallas office. Implemented Windows NT servers, Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes over WAN for corporate communications and office infrastructure. Consulted with corporate offices in Tampa for their infrastructure needs. Wrote several infrastructure support programs in Visual Basic, including a client/server alphanumeric paging system, pegboard and messaging systems that interfaced with Exchange and Outlook, and a contact manager that interfaced with Schedule+. All work done in VB 4.0/Access 7.0/OLE 2.0. Also wrote conversion routines in VB to import data into Oracle and Informix databases from flat files.

Advanta Financial Corp., Salt Lake City, UT

Responsible for planning, developing, and deployment of communications application using commercial VBX libraries and Microsoft Access data controls. Designed and wrote application using Microsoft Visual Basic 3.0. Application supported multiple dial-in clients, upload/download capabilities using the ZMODEM protocol, and database access for logon IDs and transaction logging database (written to interface with Microsoft Access/SQL Server databases). Completed project under extreme time constraints.

Lead responsibilities for conversion of ACF2 security database to UNIX platform. Responsible for project from planning stage through inception. Required familiarity with ACF2. Ported ACF2 logonid database to IBM RS6000 platform. Wrote Visual Basic 3.0 and Microsoft Access front-end applications to Oracle database. Kept project plans up to date, scheduled and conducted technical review meetings, and coordinated communications between team members. Consulted on intranet/internet and TCP/IP issues.

Responsible for support engineering and programming. Wrote installation scripts to automatically configure and install products. Wrote curses-based install and configuration programs.

Responsible for kernel-level and OS development planning and management for the Linux operating system. Set up and maintained on the Internet a network of 386's and 486's running Linux, including full name resolution services and a full news feed. Wrote and maintained a menuing shell for outside users (500+) and customers, including a custom multi-user chat program and curses-based menus, seamlessly integrating with various UNIX utilities. Various system administration tasks performed, including scheduling daily backups, and automating trimming of news, syslog, and uucp logs for the gateway system (the gateway system was designed to be run in a totally unattended mode). Responsible for configuration management, system administration, and database administration for VAR database for major UNIX system OEM. Database manipulation routines written in PROGRESS database language. Hardware included SPARC 2 and Sun 690 (Galaxy) servers.

Most software written for MS-DOS and UNIX System V operating systems.
